Sunday School

hope_kids.jpg Hope's Rotational Sunday School is a model for Sunday school based on the Workshop Rotation Model, which was developed by a number of Presbyterian churches seeking to solve their chronic Sunday School problems: boring curriculum, boring classrooms, boring teaching methods, bored kids, apathetic parents, and low Bible literacy. The model is a product of the belief that children have different learning styles and that each of us has a preferred style that helps us to learn and understand information. Howard Gardner, an education research professor at Harvard School of Education, believes that each of us possesses seven "intelligences": linguistic/verbal, logical/mathematical, spatial, bodily/kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal /relational, and intrapersonal/introspective. Using the Multiple Intelligences approach in Sunday school allows the child to experience God's Word through a variety of "hands-on" learning experiences. The Workshop Rotational Model uses the Multiple Intelligences approach to reorganize how you teach, not what you teach, with creative kid-friendly workshops, such as: Drama, Art, Movies, Bible Games, Storytelling, and Puppetry.

One

One is a program for the 4th - 6th graders as they embark on studying the Bible for their Rite of Confirmation. 4th grade studies the Old Testament, 5th grade, the stories of Jesus and the 6th grade studies Paul, the early church and Luther.

One meets Wednesdays when school is in session from 6:00-7:00 p.m., with an after school drop-in program available and supper at 5:15 p.m.

Confirmation

"Why Christian?" is for the 7th and 8th graders. This program helps young people wrestle with why it is important to confess they are Christian and what influence that makes. The 7th grade usually meets the 6 weeks before Christmas and the 8th grade the 6 weeks after Christmas on Wednesday nights from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
